News

January 2009:

Our friends Bill Zech (bass, vocals) & Oliver Calhoun (guitars, vocals) have joined the Northern Whiskey Syndicate and we've been busy working up songs new & old.  Bill & Oliver have always been around NWS but committed elsewhere when we've had personnel needs.  Now the timing finally fell into line and we're moving forward with a really cool sound.  See our Upcoming Shows to find out when & where you can catch NWS v.3.  Hope to see you soon.

December 2008:

Bassist Matt Sayes left the band in December 2008 to pursue other interests.  It was a great time having him in NWS and we appreciate his contributions.  Our best wishes to Matt in the fuure...

Spring 2008:

Ride the Train Vol. 23 & 24, a double compilation CD from NBT Records, is now out and available to buy.  It is a multi-genre record of songs with a train theme.  The song styles include rock, rock-a-billy, folk and country.  NWS' song "No One to Blame" is on volume 23.  Copies are available through us or by emailing NBT Records at: nbtoys@verizon.net  Artists from around U.S. and Europe are represented on the CDs.

Winter 2007:

On a label?
One of our songs, "No One to Blame" from Volstead 33, was picked up by NBT Records in West Virginia and will be released as part of a compilation CD from their popular "Ride the Train" series.  This song is somewhat atypical for NWS in that it is pretty stark, just acoustic guitar, harmonica, Kevin's voice and a guest appearance on vocals by Heather Case.  No One to Blame is set to be released on "Ride the Train Volume 23" and will eventually find its way to 4 continents and hopefully many, many sets of ears...we will update this item when we get details as to how to obtain a copy.  NBT is planning to release it in early February 2008.  Our thanks to John Newbraugh, label owner, for taking us on.

The CD is here:
Splice the Main Brace made the leap from concept to reality on December 7, 2007.  Contact the band at northernwhiskeysyndicate@hotmail.com for a copy, or go to CdBaby via this link and pick one up: http://cdbaby.com/cd/nws2

Midpoint 2007:
This year's Midpoint Music Festival was another great time for the band.  Our thanks to the Midpoint volunteers and staff, our venue manager Sandy Hines and the fine folks of Cincinnati.  Special thanks to Bob, proprietor of Mr. Pitiful's, for his outstanding hospitality (again).

Summer 2007

NXNE proved to be a fine experience for the band, complete with a cool venue, great crowd, loyal friends and lots of Canadian beer.  The 3rd CD is still in the mixing phase, but sounding good. On a down note, Kevin had an appendectomy that forced the band to cancel a June 23rd show at the New Way Bar, but he healed up quickly.  The CD can now officially be labeled "long awaited"...but it is progressing.  Soon, soon.

Mid Point Music Festival: On July 12th NWS was informed of their acceptance into the Mid Point Music Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio for 2007.  This will be our third consecutive year at the Mid Point, and we are looking forward to another great time at this very cool event.

NXNE
:  the band was notified in late April that we were accepted into Toronto's NXNE.  NXNE is a Canadian equivalent to the famous SXSW in Austin Texas.  There will be 450 bands in 30 venues throughout Toronto from June 7 - 9, 2007.  We'll be at the Black Bull at 9 PM on Saturday June 9th.

April 2007

The title for the 3rd release is going to be "Splice the Main Brace", a navy term for the captain giving the order for the distribution of the rum ration to the ship's crew...the CD is progressing apace, many thanks to our producer/engineer, Gabe Doman, for all his work.  Although it would be hard to give an exact release date, we'll go with "soon" for now.  Look for the art work to be outstanding; it is being provided to us by a talented artist/author from Cornwall England named Chris Odgers.  Chris found us on-line and has been an enthusiastic supporter and friend since.  Catch his work at Sawhorse Books: http://www.myspace.com/sawhorsebooks

JANUARY 2007

Recording has begun and is underway on NWS' 3rd release.  The sessions are progressing well and we hope to have the CD ready in a month.   More will be coming as the project winds down...
